Highlights from Milan Fashion Week

  • Ahh, Milan Fashion Week: so many iconic fashion brands show their marvelous creations on the Italian runway! So many that is hard to select "the best ones": we hope we will be able to give you an overview on the most important trends and collections.

    Alberta Ferretti
On Alberta Ferretti's runway, femininity is expressed through tailored cuts and military details. Pants are paired with blazers, double-breasted coats and oversized sweaters, and tucked inside boots. The accent is on the waist: both pants and sweaters are squeezed arounf the waist with belts. The palette is quite classic: black, dark grey and a lo of white, together with some metallic and dust pink accents. Very chic!

    Blumarine
So light that almost looks like a spring collection: apart from some black evening looks, Blumarine collection is a lovely triumph of femininity - but not banality. Pink and red roses printed dresses are paired with patent over-the-knee black boots, as well as in contrast with diamond knits. Diamond knits are the main characters: in pink and red, pastel blue and pink, or in a colorful metallic version, they are anywhrer. Then, some leopard accents make anything more contemporary.

    Dolce&Gabbana
Apart from polemics, D&G aesthetics is incontestably stunning. This time, there were no maiolicas and lemons on D&G garnments, but lots of fancy details that characterize the brand as well: black lace, crystal embellishments, shiny fabrics, robe-inspired suits with furry hems, polka dots, tight dresses with a vintage cut, big hats, printed tights, oversized coats, leopard details, and of course lots of flowers - paired among them or with black and white checks. Lovely and feminine, as always.

    Giorgio Armani & Emporio Armani
Do we have to tell something about the Italian fashion king? Do we have to underline that his collection was classy, elegant, timeless, and extraordinary as always? Giorgio Armani has accustomed us to a very high level, and he keep mantaining it. Armani's androgynous style enhanced the feminine beauty with taylored velvet pants, ruffles on the hips, satined structured tops, strapless jumpsuits, sheer tops, with a focus on the waist. While Giorgio Armani collection was composed mostly by pants and a black and blue palette, Emporio Armani collection featured more colors and skirts. There were lots of red and orange accents, feminine details as floral relief prints and very tall boots, and many short dresses, some of them worn with black lycra tights.

    Gucci
Gucci is probabily the most-wnated brand of any fashionista, and for a couple season have focused its runways on spectacle. So, in Milan, almost all the models were masked, in a runway where the only thread seemed to be...astonish people. Anyway, it is interesting to take a look at three details: lace colorful tights, an accessory we bet we will see a lot in the street style of following season; unusual color combos (such as red and purple, green and yellow, red and orange, purple and yellow, blue and purple, and so on); and gender fluidity: male models wore laces, florals and waist accents, as well as female ones wore oversized suits and ties.

    Prada
Prada or nada? Well, if all the collections are like this one, we might agree. We loved how elegant suits were worn with combact boots while big, hunter-like jackets were paired with satin skirts and pumps. The major trends according to Prada runway were lace outerwears; vinyl, colorful skirts with flower prints; 3D embroidery; and lots of military style details, perfectly mixed with feminine pieces.

    Fendi
Let's continue with another big of italian fashion: Fendi, which mixed different vintage inspiration to give us a contemporary, amazing collection. From monogrammed tights and socks to colorful boots, from tailored pants to patent colorful coats, from military double breasts to Forties-style skirts, from belt-bags to Eighties shoulders: we loved any look Fendi proposed. The palette was as classy and versatile as the garnments: lots of neutrals (brown, tan, beige) with some yellow, teal, fuchsia, rust and red delicate accents. Probabily, this was the most beautiful and well-curated collection in Milan.

    Roberto Cavalli
Modern, colorful, feminine, bright: Roberto Cavalli collection was, no doubt, one of the best in Milan. Yellow, blue, mint, fuchsia and white were the main colors, and gave all the looks an incredible light. The marble/watercolor colorful print, proposed in a lighter version and in a more satured one, made our hearts beat faster. Flared skirts and dresses were as feminine and incredibly elegant as tight strapless jumpsuit. And some short embellished dresses, together with black details and an unusual turquoise snake print, gave a contemporary touch to the collection. Any look was stunning, really.

    MSGM
Pop and preppy vibes for MSGM collection. The big return on this runway, directly from 1990, was the black leggings with elastic bang under the feet, styled under any elegant skirt. Then, there were leather pants, peplum skirts, checked tops, oversized cardigans, heart prints and some very pretty minidress. It was a simple, pretty collection with one, big quality: anyone of us could wear any of MSGM looks in her everyday life, without looking overdressed, ridicolous or crazy. It's not something all the designers care about.

    Elisabetta Franchi
Elisabetta Franchi collection was truly one of our favourite: each look was interesting, each one had something unique. Inspired by horse riding looks, the designer put together the some amazing looks combining double breasts and leather boots to tweed and feathers, jumpsuits with pockets and big belts to puff sleaves and flared pants. White was the main color of the collection, refreshned by red, olive green, peach, lime, turquoise, yellow touches. Except for some maxi dress and some knee-lenght skirt, lenghts were very very short. Despite that, we didn't see ots of bare legs: most of the models were wearing white tights. Feminine, young, colorful and contemporary, we loved this collection!

    Versace
Let's conclude our Milan Fashion Week review with another iconic brand: Versace. Eccentric as always, Versace collection was a triumph of neon colors: fuchsia, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, red, peach, paired together to create young, original looks. Once again, lace played an important role in this collection: proposed in neon shades, it added a pop but sexy element to knee-lenght splitted skirts. Of course, not all the looks were so bold and bright: there was a selection of evening black outfits, made with leather and satin and embellished with metallic details.
