๐๐ข๐ก๐๐ฆ๐ง๐๐ฌ, ๐ช๐ง๐ ๐๐ฆ ๐๐ข๐๐ก๐ ๐ข๐ก ๐๐ก ๐ง๐๐๐ฆ ๐๐ฅ๐ข๐จ๐ฃ ?So anyway, you have seven kingdoms. One gets crazy advanced technology from these amazing crystals they have โ the same crystals that give them access through The Veil. So obviously the help / influence of magic and magical creatures is also propelling this technology forward aka my excuse for ignoring realism.
Dragons started coming out of the sea because they wanted the crystals for important things only known to dragons. And they realized they basically needed to destroy these "mean people" on the crystal land if they wanted access to it. Altercations between them drive these people to build a colony on the moon. I realize this is my most absurd part of the lore. There are a million holes in it. I tried to make it seem like no other land on the planet except these continents exists. Maybe that's true. I just thought a wild mix of "medieval fantasy" with "technology so advanced we don't have it yet" would be . . . a glorious disaster? So please allow me this nonsensical bit.
Magic has always been there. Magical creatures have always been alive too. With some exceptions { like maybe the night of winter solstices or something }, supernatural creatures are aware of humans but cannot interact with them directly. All magical "things" are separated from humans by The Veil. { It's Mist from Percy Jackson, OKAY, don't come for me. } This protects both sides from one another, basically. These powerful crystals give humans the ability to see and interact beyond The Veil. Magical creatures can always see humans but can't interact directly. So like they can hit you with a tree branch and influence you and shit. But they can't . . . go have a chat with you. Once you have Dust, though, it's fair game.
This is why there are a bunch of legends, myths, horrifying stories to tell your children at night, etc. Even some unexplainable encounters! Nowadays, however, human civilization is expansive. It has conquered most territories, even the wildest ones, and it is polluting nature. Most magical beings have flocked to Naj'al'e because being stuck there is better than living in constant fear / persecution. Of course, some creatures didn't believe the curse at first and did cross the border back to human lands. They are just regular mortals now. They have their memories of magic but can't access it without crystals. { These types of humans are primarily the ones who founded the underground black market for magic โ to reconnect with what they once had and shit. } Some have even done it on purpose! Those who did it by choice, however, have to be careful. The magical creatures who still live outside the borders will probably hate them for willingly becoming the mortal creatures who torment them.
Basically magic is like . . . a secret but not really. Most people figure it might exist but 90% of people live without ever truly interacting with a magical creature. But then there's also kind of a black market in all kingdoms to connect to it. And, yes, there are things like witch hunts. ESPECIALLY because the governments hate the supernatural and want to get rid of it! So magic is still highly regarded as Bad News. Some countries choose the route of, "Of Course It Doesn't Exist," while others pick the classic, "All Magic Is Evil So If You See It, Report It Or Kill It." However, people are generally aware that things they can't See do, in fact, Exist. Some will definitely refuse to believe though! Whether by religion or moral code. So feel free to play around with that.
I . . . I feel like the addition of Lunaris is Way Too Much. It makes the group complicated. I should simply scrap it and say their "pilgrimage" failed and that civilization is lost. I know that the magic lore of dragons and shit is already overwhelming. So why can't I bring myself to get rid of my beloved moon colony? I'm sorry. I don't know. I'm so attached to it. Despite how ridiculous it is to believe . . . they were able to convert their spaceship into a colony on the moon, and they have survived this far. However, they're going to be coming back soon!!! Because they need resources!!! Lunaris will decide to make contact with their old neighbors on Odrana and build relationships again because, tbh, they need them to stay alive. These people are QUIRKY and WEIRD and they speak a very outdated dialect and their mannerisms are totally off lol like how is it that fucking dragon people fit in more than the space humans? But okay go off.
Almost no one knows that warlocks are actually dragons-turned-humans. No one is aware that Lunaris exists with the old Thilranian people. The largest religion states that the gods live on the moon. Only important / rich / powerful people or those connected to the illegal Dust Markets have the ability to harness and access crystals โ and therefore magic. { Besides, duh, the actual magical creatures. }
So this really messy, ridiculous world is where we begin our group. I'm . . . I'm sorry. I know no one is going to be interested in this besides Fanfan, and that's fine lol. But boy oh boy did I drive myself crazy trying to make it all anyway.

๐๐ฆ ๐ง๐๐๐ฆ ๐ข๐จ๐ฅ ๐๐๐ฅ๐ง๐ ๐๐ก ๐ง๐๐ ๐๐จ๐ง๐จ๐ฅ๐ ?So, the short answer of this is . . . maybe? But I don't really care enough to make it so. Hypothetically, our world could've been wiped out by climate change, and the rising sea levels could explain why there is so little land on this planet. Also, it explains why there is a moon, tides, and weather similar to ours. OR! We could just not care enough to answer this question, because will it really be relevant to anyone? If it truly is, we can decide on a more definitive answer to this. But I don't imagine it will be necessary.
As for more ancient history that could or could not connect to the world we live in . . . if you need that for your story, we can get there. Lbr, Queen Nakomis was only peace-loving at the end of her life { if that ever was her motivation } bc she was probably war-crazy earlier and that's why it was all united under her. Also, obvi if you want to be remembered as nice, you have to get rid of all evidence that might say otherwise. So maybe it's actually her fault that ancient history has been scrubbed, okay? :-)
